Greenpoint Beer Works Opens a Taproom

It’s fun, bearing witness to the craft beer growth in New York City. In the past several years we’ve not only seen great new breweries popping up in all five boroughs, but we’ve also seen some of the originals grow and expand.
This week, Greenpoint Beer Works – which produces KelSo and Heartland Brewery beers – opened a taproom at its Clinton Hill location. In addition to these two brands, Greepoint has also contracted for Empire Brewing Company, Chelsea Brewing Company. Chris Cuzme and Mary Izett brew Cuzett Libations there. Sam Richardson and Matt Monahan met while working at Greenpoint, and have since founded Other Half Brewing Company.

Kelly Taylor and his wife Sonya Giacobbe (the Kel and So of KelSo) are at the helm of all the beery goodness that comes out of Greenpoint. Taylor, pictured below, is also now the President of the NYC Brewers Guild. While they’ve been brewing in little old Clinton Hill since 2002, they haven’t opened to the public until now.

Visit the brewery on Thursday and Friday nights from 5 to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 10 p.m. at 529 Waverly Place, steps from the Clinton-Washington C train stop. Enjoy a fresh KelSo Nut Brown Lager, a Heartland Juniper Black IPA, or whatever else is cookin’ up on-site.
