Beer Releases Around NYC

It has been a while since we gave you some updates on new beers and old favorites being released in the New York market and there are some exciting brews that will soon be hitting shelves and tap handles around the city. Bronx Brewery Rye Pale Ale – Available August through November Of all the pale ales from The Bronx Brewery, the Rye Pale Ale might be our favorite. The beer uses flaked rye for almost a quarter of the grain bill and has a slight spice character from the rye to go with the breadiness and solid hop character…

Brooklyn Brewery Cuvée La Boîte Release

On Monday the Brooklyn Brewery celebrated the release of a new beer in its Brewmaster’s Reserve series: Brooklyn Brewery Cuvée La Boîte. Inspired by the Belgian Grand Cru style, this beer is a collaboration between Garrett Oliver, brewmaster of the Brooklyn Brewery, and Lior Lev Sercarz, owner of La Boîte Biscuits and Spices in Manhattan. Sercarz is known as a “spice therapist.” “This is one of more exciting projects for me that we’ve done,” said Garrett Oliver at the event.  “[Lior’s] way of using spices is like writing music; it’s not obvious, it’s impressionistic, it takes you places… the spice blend he…

NYC Hog Days of Summer

Alongside the craft beer boom over the past couple of years, barbecue seems to be getting more and more attention in New York City, but the whole hog barbecues are still a rarity. On Saturday August 17th both will be together when John Brown Smokehouse and Arrogant Swine present a North Carolina Whole Hog barbecue alongside beer from Founders Brewing. The hog comes from Tamarack Hollow Farm in Vermont. There is currently no published beer list but Founders has a line up that would be great with some barbecue on a summer day. There are two sessions at 12 p.m.…

Sixpoint Craft Beer and Food Crawl

The $30 ticket gets you a Sixpoint beer at each of the 11 bars and restaurants on the crawl between 1-7 p.m. The bars are split up between Long Island City in Queens and Greenpoint in Brooklyn. Lager Follies, Part 1

A homebrewer’s journal, by John Kleinchester Homebrewing is an ever-evolving adventure. Sometimes you brew amazingly awesome beer. Sometimes you get stuck in a rut and want to walk away for a while. And sometimes you need to traverse a road that not only have you never been down before, but seems like an uphill battle from the start. The road I decided to embark upon for the first time was the fantastical world of lager brewing. I’ve been wanting to brew a lager for a few years now but it’s only recently that I’ve acquired the chest freezer that would…

Good Beer Month 2013

This marks the fifth year in a row that July has been declared Good Beer Month in New York City. As the craft beer movement has exploded in the city, Good Beer Month and the Good Beer Seal aim to identify the best places to get craft beer, and produce events that celebrate it. This year’s featured events included beer dinners, panel discussions, and the first annual New York State Food and Beer Expo. Here are some highlights from this year’s Good Beer Month. Good Beer Seal Expands to Jersey City and Long Island Each year since its inception, more…
